Apple & Pear Crumble
Preparation time : 1hr
Serves 8
Ingredients:
500 g Cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped
500 g Pears (firm), peeled, cored and chopped
2 Tbsp Granulated sugar
450 g Crumble topping
Method :
Preheat oven to 200c
Put apples in heavy based pan with 125ml water. Cook and simmer for 5mn (or use 50ml water and microwave for 2mn)
Drain apples (reserve the juice to make a syrup for extra moisture and sweetness), add the pears and sugar. Mix well and put in 23cm ceramic flan dish.
Put crumble topping over the fruit (Morrison's oath cinnamon crumble mix is particularly good and cheapbif you're in a rush).
Bake for 35-40 mn or until crumble is golden. Serve hot with vanilla ice- cream, custard, crème anglaise or cream.
To make syrup, add a couple of tbsp of sugar to the apple cooking water, simmer for a few minutes until it has thickened a little.
